Hi, my name is Angela and I would like to welcome you to Global Gadding, a travel blog written by an avid traveller, living in the beautifully small but perfectly formed United Kingdom. Whether exploring cities and dales in the UK or travelling to long haul destinations, I am hooked on discovering new places, new cultures and new experiences together with my husband Richard.
Combining travel with home and work life, means maximising weekends and annual leave and taking every opportunity to discover new places and new countries.
Our travel style has definitely changed over the years, and we now enjoy the more stylish and unique hotels wherever we stay. Luxury is just as much about great service, unusual settings and great food and can be achieved with careful planning and budgeting.
Travel means different things to each of us, but we are definitely avid fans of doing as much as we can with the timescale we have whilst always getting value for money.
Independent Travel all the way is our motto and what we are happiest with, but have enjoyed many day trips and communal dinners along the way.
We try to combine famous sites and landmarks i.e typical tourist options, with alternative activities and discovering unique local eateries and modes of transport, which all adds to the “experience”.
I guess my very first travel experience, even though I have no memory of it, was at the tender age of 5 months. My parents, who were born and bred Liverpudlians made the decision to embark as £10 Poms and emigrate to Australia for a new life. Though that didn’t last due to homesickness, a love for travel was set in stone. My love affair with Australia is another story but needless to say, I have been back on 4 separate occasions.
I have always been the main driving force in our travels and I think this has been magnified by my job. I have worked as an Aromatherapist at my local Hospice for the past 18/19 years, and hand on heart, these years have shaped me into the person I am today. Working with Palliative Patients and sharing their courageous journey is both rewarding and a privilege and my outlook on life has been changed for the better. I can’t think of a better way of explaining this, than the poem below, which resonates very strongly with me.
On an ancient wall in China
Where a brooding Buddha blinks
Deeply graven is the message
It is later than you think.
The clock of time is wound but once and no
man has the power,
To tell just when the hand will stop
At late or early hour.
Now is all the time you own
The past a golden link,
Go cruising now my brother
It is later than you think.
We are all unique but my job is a constant reminder to me that whatever I want to do, I should go ahead and start. And so with the sound advice provided by my lovely patients over the years, I have done just that.

Why The Name Global Gadding?
A “Gadder” is someone who moves from place to place in pursuit of pleasure.
Hence the name Global Gadding seemed to suit me down to the ground!
