Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands, which are technically an autonomous region of Spain.
A road trip around this volcanic island will take you up dramatic winding roads to hilltop hamlets, past soaring volcanic cliffs, and alongside spectacular scenery.
Wander the cobbled streets of La Oratava, take a cable car up imposing Mount Teide, and hike the trails in the lush forests of Anaga Rural Park. Start planning your Road Trip here!

BEST TIME TO VISIT TENERIFE
With its sub-tropical climate, Tenerife can be visited all year round.
The best time to visit in our opinion is during Spring and Autumn when you can go hiking without the crowds.
We visited in late February/March and enjoyed bright sunny weather. Summer months are very busy with higher prices, and temperatures in August can reach 30°C. Winter months are sunny and mild. Even February enjoys an average high of 22º C and an average low of 15º C.
- For beach holidays and general relaxation, visit in the Summer.
- If you visit during the Winter, stay in the South as it is the sunniest and warmest part of the island.
- If you plan on hiking a lot, visit in Spring and Autumn.
HOW MANY DAYS IN TENERIFE?
For a road trip, allow 10 days to see the highlights at a leisurely pace. With 7 days you can see beaches, colourful villages, and a selection of national parks.
Depending on your flight time, Tenerife also makes a great weekend getaway if you focus on one particular area.
